Finally Google has released Chrome 72 for its mobile and desktop users, it brings lot of security improvements, along with the new features for developers as well. The Chrome browser on Mac, Windows and Linux get a new settings menu, web authentication API improvements, come with blocking of popups during page load and a lot more. Desktop users can upgrade to the latest version by using chrome’s built-in updater for downloading it directly from the company website. Chrome 72 for Android brings upgrades for the media player notifications while using Incognito tab and more.
Starting with the desktop users chrome 72 remove the ability to set up a chromecast dongle using the desktop Browser. Instead points users towards the Google Home app for Android and IOS. Earlier uses where able to set up their dongle from Chrome://cast. But in the new update this ability has been removed. However this change is only for the setting a process and casting tabs, audio or videos is still very easy and seamless.
Settings menu get autofill support for sections and also there is a shortcut in the people section that allows you to open the Google account settings directly. Chrome 72 also bring web authentication API improvements for added layer of security. This update allows users to sign in using a security key, Bluetooth U2F keys, over other security methods. Windows users can use either hello or two factor verification process in the browser as well. For Mac users Chrome 72 bring support for external authentication devices that connect over BLE., now Chrome 72 restrict pop ups to no longer appear during page unloads regardless of whether the popup blocker is activated or not. Chrome 72 also blocks code injections thereby reducing crashes caused by third party software. The update also includes 58 security fixes.
In Android Chrome 72 brings a new way to see tab history buy long pressing the back button, a few changes to the tab menu and security improvements as well. Android police also spotted a chrome duet feature that brings more options to the bottom overflow menu. The web authentication API improvements allow login using security key, Windows hello and other ways.
In iOS. Chrome 72 supports more search engines. To add another search engine, you just need to perform a search on that website in Chrome after this you can visit Chrome settings to add the search engine. Also fixer crashes on some page translations and add a translations on previously and translated website. A Siri shortcut to start a new service also available
